From: TMazzotta on 29 Apr 2010 16:35 I have a PowerPoint 2007 document that I have created a bunch of links to a bunch of different PNG files in the same folder as the PPTx file.. When the underlying PNG files change, I want the linked images displayed in PowerPoint to update accordingly. But this is not happening, even if I exit out of PowerPoint and get back in again. I'm also not getting the 'Enable External Content' message box that I've seen other users get. A few other notes: - The Folder that the PPTx and PNG files is NOT in a trusted location (i've tried it both ways). In the 'Message Bar Setting for all Office Appications', the 'Show Message Bar in all applicaiton when content is blocked' is selected. - The folder that the PPT file is in WAS marked as a trusted location and then I removed it from the 'trusted location'.. When I copy this same file and put it in a folder that has never been marked as trusted, I DO get the 'Enable External Content' dialog - The only way I can get the images to refresh is to manually go into the links and select 'Update Now' Any help at getting the 'Enable External Content' to show up my computer would be much appreciated'

Insert | Picture Choose the pic Click the downarrow next to Insert and choose Link to File. Insert and Link might be a better choice if the file's at all likely to be moved. ============================== PPT Frequently Asked Questions http://www.pptfaq.com/ PPTools add-ins for PowerPoint http://www.pptools.com/
From: TMazzotta via OfficeKB.com on 29 Apr 2010 22:51 Hi Steve - Yes, I am doing it the way you described.. in fact, I'm also using your 'FixLinks' product to convert the file references over from absolute references to 'relative references' (so the user just needs to ensure the PNG files are in the same folder as the XLS doc itself)... But I'm having the trouble I described even before I run FixLinks Steve Rindsberg wrote: >> I have a PowerPoint 2007 document that I have created a bunch of links to a >> bunch of different PNG files in the same folder as the PPTx file.. >[quoted text clipped - 20 lines] >> Any help at getting the 'Enable External Content' to show up my computer >> would be much appreciated' > >Have you tried inserting the images as links rather than using Objects? > >Insert | Picture >Choose the pic >Click the downarrow next to Insert and choose Link to File. > >Insert and Link might be a better choice if the file's at all likely to be >moved. > >============================== >PPT Frequently Asked Questions >http://www.pptfaq.com/ > >PPTools add-ins for PowerPoint >http://www.pptools.com/ -- Message posted via OfficeKB.com http://www.officekb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/powerpoint/201004/1

I've never seen any sort of "Enable external content" message when using linked images. Also, are you hoping that the images will update during a slideshow if the image files change? That won't happen. PPT only checks for updated source files when it opens the presentation file. > > Steve Rindsberg wrote: > >> I have a PowerPoint 2007 document that I have created a bunch of links to a > >> bunch of different PNG files in the same folder as the PPTx file.. > >[quoted text clipped - 20 lines] > >> Any help at getting the 'Enable External Content' to show up my computer > >> would be much appreciated' > > > >Have you tried inserting the images as links rather than using Objects? > > > >Insert | Picture > >Choose the pic > >Click the downarrow next to Insert and choose Link to File. > > > >Insert and Link might be a better choice if the file's at all likely to be > >moved. > > > >============================== > >PPT Frequently Asked Questions > >http://www.pptfaq.com/ > > > >PPTools add-ins for PowerPoint > >http://www.pptools.com/ ============================== PPT Frequently Asked Questions http://www.pptfaq.com/ PPTools add-ins for PowerPoint http://www.pptools.com/
From: TMazzotta via OfficeKB.com on 30 Apr 2010 16:55 Steve.. I'm able to get the message come up on my machine if I move the pptx file to a different folder.. The message is - Message Bar at top: Security Warning: References to external picturs have been blocked with an 'Options' button. .. If I press the Options button, I get a dialog titled 'Microsoft Office Security Options'.. Sub title is 'Security Alert'. A bunch of text talking about blocking stuff. Then two radio buttons: - Help protect me from unknown content (recommended) - Enable external Content the first radio option is selected by default. Ok and Cancel Button. ------------------------------ As mentioned above, if I move this file to a c:\junk folder, I get this message.. If I leave it in the original folder that I DID have set up as a 'trust center' and have sinced removed that folder from the trust center, I do NOT get this message.. It seems like some sort of bug/strange feature where if a a folder was once marked as a 'trust center' but now is not, Office does one thing.. If the folder was never marked as a trust center, Office does another thing.. Just a theory.. -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com
