I think you are asking about the reliability of an eBay purchase as
far as actually getting something in the mail. However, there is more
to it than that, as you need to worry about whether what you receive
is pirated software which you will be unable to register with Adobe.

There are some ways to get legit copies at lower prices. There are
Student and Educational versions, as opposed to the commercial
version, provided you qualify. However, there are, to me, confusing
sets of rules as to how the different licenses can be uses (for
commercial purposes or not) and what the available upgrade paths are.

Sometimes if you take a course in PS there is an offer to purchase the
software at a reduced price. I know someone who did this a few years
ago. He got the full commercial version at a discount after paying for
the course.

Sometimes there are discount offers along with hardware purchases,
such as a Wacom tablet.

After you've taken a look through some of your options, why don't you
post back with the best options you've found? I'm sure there are a few
others reading this group mulling the idea of purchasing the same
product.
