From: yuppicide on 7 Apr 2010 16:54 Not sure what happened, but the printer icon always shows in the SysTray. I have "Hide when inactive", but it doesn't hide. I can say "Always hide" but it's still there when I click that little arrow to open the SysTray. It used to never show at all unless printing. Also when I go into where I set the options and look under "Past Items" theres a lot of entries in there for items I no longer even have installed on my computer. Is there a way to get those not to show in there?

Slow Checks (because Detailed:) 2a: in /Computer Admin . . . / Services look for a nonessential printer service you can turn off. 2b: Ctl Alt Del to load Systems manager, then inspect what processes are loaded (viz. occupying memory space.) -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

Is there a way to get those not to show in there? If there is nothing to print, there should not be a printer icon displayed so it may be something else. Do you have anything stuck in your print queue? Open your printer and be sure it looks okay (empty). Hover the mouse over the icon for a pop up clue, or right click, Properties and be sure what it is first and report back if you cannot figure it out. Many things that install put a "helpful" icon in the Notification Area and some things can be configured not to do that. First make sure what it is, then decide what to do. To clean up those annoying Past Items in the Customize Notifications section, read and implement this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283084 I see there is a Fix it option on that page now... I have never tried the Fix it option before - I just do the registry edit. That may fix your other problem too - reboot after making changes and see what it looks like when you are all done. If you choose to fix it yourself via the registry and maybe learn a thing or two in the process, safety first.: Before making any changes to your registry, back it up with this popular free tool: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

I have a HP 7700 and it has a card reader so that I can print directly from the card and it is always in the system tray even if I don't have a card in the printer. The card reader itself is simply grabbing a position on the system bus. From: yuppicide on 9 Apr 2010 12:37 I think that was the answer. Something earlier in the day was stuck in print queue by mistake. I got rid of it and rebooting must have solved the problem because it's not happening today. I didn't remember something stuck in queue until I just read this.. Thanks!
