Guys can anyone provide a suggested solution to this problem. I have a few
clients who cannot open encrypted emails. When I try to open the message, I
get the a dialog box with the following "Cannot open this item. Your digital
ID name cannot be found by the underlying security system"
Any ideas?

Hi Nik,

Your question is kinda vague.
We cannot determine:
1. Which mail server are you using? Exchange?
2. Which client are you using? Outlook? Windows Live?
3. Which method of encryption are you using? PGP? Outlook with certificates?

In any case, your question is posted on:
nntp://microsoft.public.windows.server.general

I'm convinced that you stand much better chance of getting a good quality
answer on one of the more specialized groups, like Exchange, Outlook,
Windows Live etc.

From my experience, however, I would say that the following is the issue
(with Exchange and Outlook).
1. To be able to receive encrypted e-mail, a receiving person must have a
valid certificate. In corporate environment, this is usually handled by the
enterprise certificate authority.

2. The receiving person's certificate with her/his public key must be
available to the sender.

3. Sender uses receiving person's public key to encrypt the message.

4. Receiving person decrypts the message using her/his matching private key.

Good luck
