I have had some problems lately running Mathematica in Win7 64.
Suddenly I loose contact with the program and have to kill the process
(it's impossible to close down or quit within the programme). The
problem is solved when setting Mathematica in compatibility mode for
WinXP, but that creates other problems. Today I discovered that the
problem only occurs when running WordMS. Have some of you experienced
similar problems and have you a fix?

Cheers,
Arne

Do you mean you're running Microsoft Word? Which version? I run MS Word 2007
concurrently with Mathematica on my Win7 64-bit OS quite frequently, and I
haven't run into any problems.

I have the similar problems on windows vista running Mathematica 7.01
and word 2003 (Same thing happens with word 2007).

Similar to the OP's issue, When word (2003 or 2007) is running at the
same time as Mathematica, Mathematica becomes unresponsive to mouse
inputs. Well, it becomes very sluggish to anything I'm trying to do in
Mathematica. (like selecting, evaluating, even typing)

I realized at one point, my problem was caused by endnote reference
manager program integrated with Word.

When I uninstalled Endnote (x.2 version), the problems disappeared.
now I can run both word 2003 and 2007 at the same time as Mathematica
and have no problems.

It's quite unfortunate because Endnote is very useful for writing...
hope there is some type of workaround for this.

Another thing weird about endnote is that it uses "field" feature in
Word which causes excessive CPU usage. At least that's what I can tell
on my machine using task manager.

Hello MathGroup:

I am not sure that this is related, but...

I think Vista & Win7 has some type of "Math input palette" thingee
where it will try to interpret math gestures (maybe like a summation
symbol)....also I think I read somewhere that Mathematica also hooks into
this...maybe they are colliding...
