Would be nice to get an answer to this as I'm getting the same error.

This "new and improved" licensing is causing no end of headaches. I had a
server hardware die and can't get the system working because of this same
issue.

Veritas/Symantec say it's a Microsoft issue. Which is quite troubling.

I'm not a threatening type guy but if sys admins cannot restore servers
fairly easily and quickly using common backup/restore methodologies then they
are going to move to something else.

I would also like to see a response to this issue. I have a W2K3 server that
has started doing this just the other day. In my case there was no system
restore involved. My error message is almost identical:

A Windows Product Activation error dialog box. "A problem is preventing
Windows from accurately checking license for this computer". Error Code
0x800703e6.

My installation is from a volume licence agreement.

The only thing I see similar to the same post as a trigger is that this box
runs a full NT backup each night.

There are several other postings with this same issue, but I have not seen a
reply from an MVP or any offered solutions from the community as yet.

Here's another example:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?&query=windows+product+activation&lang=en&cr=US&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.general&p=1&tid=33ba2562-910d-40bf-9627-675c2c30b15a&mid=33ba2562-910d-40bf-9627-675c2c30b15a

Thanks in advance for any help.

This article reflects exactly what we are seeing, but we didn't have an in
place upgrade to trigger it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555488/en-us
