To you, does 2 + 2 equal 5? This century is the 21st Century, so last
century was the 20th Century. The first Century ran from 0001AD to
0100AD (there was no year 0), so the 20th Century ran from 1901AD to
2000AD.

Sounds fine to me.

What decade is it currently.

By what year, according to Kennedy's speech, was the moon landing
supposed to occur?

The 201st AD.

The decade in question was the 197th, 1961-1970.

Why did NASA decide that the moon landing had to be in 1969?
It seems that they didn't believe that they had one more year.

JFK set 1970 as a limit, not a target. As you rightly asked, "by what
year", not "in what year".
