From: B'ichela on 10 Apr 2007 02:15 Finally I got one of the two keyboards I won on Ebay for my Imac/g3 to replace the older Mac Pro keyboard (black/silver) that suffered a control key failure. STandard keys work good in both Mac Os 9.2.2 and Debian Linux 3.1 (sarge). Some nice people in comp.os.linux.hardware gave me some clues how to program the 7 multimedia keys under Linux. Now for the Mac side. There is 7 keys above the keyboard. they have hireoglyphics but I will give them names here based on their aparent use. Envelope, Compaq support key, reload, power (could be CD also), magnifying glass, airplane and shopping cart. Is there a Mac Os 9.2.2 driver to use these keys? There is also one extra key on the right side next to the Control key that looks like a menu with a manifying glass. The windows key becomes command and the Alt key is Option (like expected) and it works fine even in Open firmware bootking as well as pulling up the boot option at boot with holding down the option key at the 'bong' There is a little disappointment here too. Nothing major but this KB does not quite match my Imac g3/400 allthought it looks good with my Lexmark E232 laser printer and my Merlin 10 button office phone that is on my desk. The lack of side USB ports isn't quite a show stopper as I have a powered 7 device USB hub on my Imac (its also silver) Lastly the keyboard is a little wider than my older keyboard and given what I know of the Microsoft Digital Pro Media keyboard that is soon to be here (Second one I won on Ebay). my precious desk space won't be enough room for that thing! This keyboard takes enough space and makes my desk look cramped. Keyboard feel isn't too bad, it feels fairly good but after using an Apple Pro keyboard for over aa year this thing does feel different to me. I haven't tried Apple's new white keyboard other than once on a friends computer but I think I will go for one of those too. Keyboard feel is very personal. some like them with a snappy feel like my old IBM Model 5 keyboard, some like them mushy. After using the older Mac Pro keyboard I had for over a year I have gotten used to the softer feel. -- From the Desk of the Sysop of: Planet Maca's Opus, a Free open BBS system. telnet://pinkrose.dhis.org Web Site: http://pinkrose.dhis.org, Dialup 860-618-3091 300-33600 bps The New Cnews maintainer B'ichela

You're kidding right? You want someone to write Mac drivers for specialty keys on a Windows keyboard for Mac OS 9, which has been all-but-dead for 6 years now. Good luck convincing anyone to put forth the effort to do that. ; ) -- JR |
