I have a question for which I was hoping someone would have an answer.

I currently have a dataset with many variables each having different
formats and labels associated with the variables. I would like to
recode all of those variables to have the same name and same label,
yet I would like the new values to be character strings of the
formatted values.

examples:
I have a format which is 1 for Yes and 0 for No. I would like to take
this numeric variable and change it to be a character with Yes and No
as the response.

I have a format which is Y for Yes and N for No. I would like to take
this character variable and change it to be a character with Yes and
No as the response.

It would be a bonus to keep the variables in the same order if
possible!
