From: Christian W on 28 Jan 2010 08:45 Hello all, I have a problem with redistribution, i need to do that the redistribution fill 8 hours day by day. But MSproject never do this. For example, If Bob had work (Task1) ... BOB Day1 Day2 Day3 Day4 Task1 2 2 3 5 And now I have more work for BOB (Task2) and need to do this: BOB Day1 Day2 Day3 Day4 Task1 2 2 3 5 Task2 6 6 5 3 But never do this!! how can do it ?? Have setting "redistribution resources" as follow - "Manual" - Search over... by "hours" - "Redistribute complete project" - Sort= "Priority, Standar" - click 3 last items Thanks in advance, Christian W
From: JulieS on 28 Jan 2010 10:09 Hello Christian, I believe you are expecting the Resource Leveling command to do something it never will. The resource leveling command --what you refer to as redistribution -- only solves cases where the peak units for a resource is above the maximum units set. When you assign resources to tasks, you specify the assignment units, or Project may calculate them for you based upon the task duration and the amount of work you enter. So, if on task 1 you have Bob assigned at the hours below, Bob's assignment units are as follows: Day 1: 25% Day 2: 25% Day 3: 38% Day 4: 63% If you then assign Bob to Task 2 at 8 hours per day (100%), Bob is now overallocated. If you use the resource leveling command, Project cannot change the assignment unit for Task 2 to the remainder of Bob's maximum unit. Your choices are either to ensure you do not assign Bob at above 37% to Task 2 (allowing 100% peak units on Day 4, but less than 100% on Days 1-3, or go into the Resource Usage view and manually edit the work. The other option is to ensure that Bob is always assigned at 100% (or whatever his max. units are) and then use the resource leveling command to spread the tasks out. I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along. From: Jan De Messemaeker on 28 Jan 2010 10:47 Hi, You are the victim of one of the very bad translations of Project terms around. As Julie describes, Leveling is not redistribution... but in some langages (Dutch...) it is translated as the equivalent of redistribution. From: Jan De Messemaeker on 28 Jan 2010 14:44 Well, it is what you read as redistribution. It does NOT redistribute, it only delays tasks. ONLY that.
