From: "<*(((><{" on 30 Aug 2005 15:05 I foolishly, foolishly, installed KB 982130. WGA. The update from hell. How do I get rid of it? 1. What registry entries to kill? 2. What files to delete? <*(((><{ Fishy(a)ocean.net
From: Jon on 30 Aug 2005 19:17 Using System Restore to return to a recent Restore Point would be the simplest way. registrywise Jon "<*(((><{" <<*((({~~~@ocean.net> wrote in message news:%23y6s0YZrFHA.1028(a)TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... >I foolishly, foolishly, installed KB 982130. From: "<*(((><{" on 30 Aug 2005 23:50 Thanks. I'll do that. It should take me back to Update v5, which wasn't working. Is there a way I can download and install v4? <*((((><{ Fishy(a)Ocean.Net In the last exciting episode on Wed, 31 Aug 2005 00:17:28 +0100, "Jon" <Email_Address(a)SomewhereOrOther.com> wrote: |Using System Restore to return to a recent Restore Point would be the |simplest way. registrywise | | |Jon | | |"<*(((><{" <<*((({~~~@ocean.net> wrote in message |news:%23y6s0YZrFHA.1028(a)TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... |>I foolishly, foolishly, installed KB 982130. From: Jon on 31 Aug 2005 02:41 yw.. Not sure about installing v4, but, I think if you visit the initial stage of Windows Update, and quit at the appropriate time, you can install the latest version of the Windows Update software, without installing the Validation tool. Quit Windows Update when you reach the prompt to install new software, after clicking "Custom" Jon "<*(((><{" <Fishy(a)Ocean.Net> wrote in message news:p6aah193sbmi2scvgg2ndkt4mg97tn5drb(a)4ax.com... > Thanks. From: PA Bear on 31 Aug 2005 12:11 Why do you think you need to "get rid of it"? If you're running WinXP with WGA, Windows Update should now default to V6 Engine. You cannot go back to V4 in WinXP. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE, Shell/User, Security), AH-VSOP <*(((><{ wrote: > I foolishly, foolishly, installed KB 982130. WGA.
