From: Bret Cahill on 8 Jun 2010 00:26 There was some technique to deal with the uncertainty of the strength of a structure, say, an aircraft wing, under a lifetime loading situation which also fit some statistical distribution. The same approach could also be applied to a reinforced concrete structure near an active fault line. (Earthquake insurance is generally prohibitively expensive which suggests their actuaries aren't on the ball.) Anyway, why not treat the building and the fault line as one and the same from a reliability POV? Bret Cahill |
