How can I permanently and completely remove MSN Explorer and Messenger from
my PC. I have looked at the add/remove Windows components, but I am confused
that check in a box BOTH adds and/or removes an application.

Greetings Walter,

Which version of Windows is this? I'm going to assume Windows XP since it has both MSN
Explorer and Windows Messenger built-in.

You can remove MSN Explorer from the Add/Remove Windows Components.

However, if you uncheck Windows Messenger, it will just remove the shortcut to the
application. This is because other components in Windows can depend on Windows Messenger
(for instance, Outlook Express used to -- this has been changed in updates) and even the
latest Windows Live Messenger still uses it on XP for Remote Assistance and Whiteboard
purposes.

Assuming you still want to fully remove it. You can do so by clicking the Start button, then
click Run and enter:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click OK.

Windows Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions see:
