As the subject says I'm looking for a freeware program that can back up the
CMOS data on a WinXP box that needs to have it's battery replaced. Is there
such a program? Any help would ne appreciated.

TIA

you could try cmossave

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/CMOS-save-
CMOSrest.shtml

lots of files in the .zip but look for the 3 .com files
cmossave
cmosrest
cmoschk
and of course the text file that explains all.

Its a dos app really meant for running from a bootable floppy which you
would probably need if everything was wiped out, but it does work from a
command window. syntax cmossave c:<file.nam> , could not be much simpler.

Also a good idea to make your own backup with pencil and paper or a
digital camera.

From experience, if you are quick with the battery swap, you might not
require to restore the settings.

Which motherboard? My ASUS motherboard has a built-in function that can
do that (save BIOS settings to the motherboard or save them to a flash
drive).

It's an older board Asus P5VDC-MX rev1.
I went ahead and made the battery switch already, took less than a minute
everything seems to be ok.
How would I go about finding out if this board has the feature you mention.
I also have another Asus MB P5KPL-CM that might have that feature if I knew
where to look.(G)
Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
