From: Frank on 12 Feb 2010 06:33 I understand that Retrospect default setting is for differential backups. What about copying? Is it differential also?

It came with an external CD writer I used on older Powermacs on OS 8 and 9. (I threw the perfectly good working machine out, figuring too much trouble to find someone who would want it. Hard thing to do, throw good things out. But ruthlessness is the game at the moment as I clear up decades of stuff!) Just mentioning this Retrospect because I have yet to chuck it, it is still lying here in its nice "Dantz" folder. -- dorayme

Time Machine saved me from that horror story. -- Helping others to help themselves.

I have Time Machine, but I guess I was confused about it as I was under the impression that it only did full backups..not differential or cumulative backups

If you saw the previews of the thing, it gave you access to every file-change you may have made every time it backed up, which could be a few times a day. But it will do a full backup, certainly. And does, as you might imagine, the very first time you use it. I would guess you can do another full back up again if you like. Just point it to another volume, or a partition of a volume on which a Time Machine backup does not exist and tell it to "Back Up Now". Or you can delete the results of the previous day's or week's backup file and start again. -- Helping others to help themselves.
