J B, not to put too fine a point on it, there is a significant difference between being told one is attempting to *do* something foolish and being told one *is* a fool.

John, perhaps the OP could download Bill Watterson's "Transmorgrifier
Toolbox" from the Matlab File Exchange (FEX).
