From: Here In Oregon on 14 Mar 2010 01:08 I am now watching David Gilmour live a Gdansk. I have not had this much fun in ages. In must be High Def. It has to be.
From: Bob Donald on 14 Mar 2010 01:09 > You know Bob I was just revisiting Vai a few minutes ago in high def and > came back to make this post. > You have got to see this performance. Absolutely incredible! I will find > out what concert it is and report back tomorrow. > Maybe it is High Def that is getting me all excited. LOLOLOL!!!!! Yeah, definitely let me know, would love to see it. > I can play YYZ on bass . Covered a bunch of Rush live in the late 70's > early 80's on bass. It's a blast, aint it? Being primarily a guitarist I love Lifeson, but found the bass parts so much more interesting to play. If you covered alot of Rush, maybe you can explain why I cant get Spirit of Radio down, no matter how hard I try! It aint like it's rocket science, I just cant get that syncopation down for the life of me!! I can play it faster and slower, but cant play along with the cd tempo to save my life. Any hints would be appreciated . I hope I'm not taking things too far off topic :)

It is called Steve Vai: Where the Wild Things Are He like dances to his guitar playing and puts all kinds of emotion into his style and technique and does things with feedback and his whammy that are mind blowing. Definitely will give you a Wow factor and it is a must see. Sunday March 28 6:00 pm in High Def on Palladia. It is out on DVD and here is a very limited trailer that doesn't say much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6M_zHDd7fM >> I can play YYZ on bass . I never covered Spirit of Radio but remember the song well after pulling it up on youtube just now. Here is YYZ. I just noticed that Neil Peart's drum kit has gotten even bigger. LOL! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3hJ5-ngUow

"Bob Donald" > I LOVE Steve Morse! Ypsi is only 20 miles away, where he grew up, and they still consider him their pride and joy. I've been a fan of his for a long > time. Yeah, he has awesome tone and the chops to match it! But my big > question, what the hell is the bass player doing using a pick with a ric > 4001??? That's sacreligious to us Geddy Lee fans! Sorry, I kind of became > snobbish when I was filling in on bass for a cover band for a few months, > and had to learn Freewill and YYZ, and they wouldnt let me use a pick :) > It was the singers 4001, and those were his rules. Thanks for the link > though, that sounds awesome. Of course I've heard the song, I'm 45! But > sure havent heard that version. >But my big > question, what the hell is the bass player doing using a pick >with a ric 4001??? When I was primarily just a bass player days I used only my fingers and my guitarist used to comment that I was faster than he could play with a pick. However, I have learned to play with a pick now as well because it can give you that attack and punch that can cut through a mix like a serrated but sharp knife. I believe the bass is cutting through in this mix just fine and is doing what a bassist needs to do and that is playing for the song and not showing off with chops. I cannot play fast with a pick on bass at all though. I have probably the finest sounding bass guitar on the planet. It is *active* and has a Fender Precision Bass body and a Fender Jazz neck along with having P bass *and* Jazz pickups and get this. You can blend the pickups together at varying degrees and it has tons of tonal controls. It blows any bass I have ever played right out of the water and that is a good thing because I sold one of my favorite basses that I played live everywhere with and was attached to but sold it because I became broke. I told the dude I would keep in touch with him and buy it back one day for like twice the price I was selling it for but never had to or would even want to now because this bass rocks the casbah. Built really well too. |
