From: Joe#2 on 10 May 2010 22:10 One of my customers business is very dependent on the SBS fax utility where he is using 2 modems. We are upgrading to SBS 2008 premium and are looking into a virtual configuration that (as I understand it) will not support a fax modem. Suggestions on alternatives that will integrate with SBS2008 ? Especially one that would allow him to keep his existing phone numbers.
From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 11 May 2010 00:18 I don't know about others But I've had a hard time getting any Fax to work on SBS2008 Old USR Courier Serial Modems seem to work But even then I've had issues Problem is, that no one makes a good 64Bit Driver. So you are using the 32bit and it seems like issues I've just had people convert to an e fax solution or use their copier fax that has email abilities Sorry :( You could try GFI for a program but the issue I've been running into is the fax not answering on the SBS2008 I wish I had better news But for me, I don't support it anymore :( Russ -- Russell Grover - SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] MCP, MCPS, MCNPS, SBSC Small Business Server/Computer Support - www.SBITS.Biz BPOS - Microsoft Online Services - www.Microsoft-Online-Services.com "Joe#2" <Joe2(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E9650A77-5130-4DB4-A762-665116FE8C9C(a)microsoft.com... > One of my customers business is very dependent on the SBS fax utility > where > he is using 2 modems. From: Cliff Galiher - MVP on 11 May 2010 02:08 There are USB/Serial over IP programs out there (google) that will install virtual drivers and then connect to the physical device over the virtual network stack that the virtualization platform *should* offer. Or, don't virtualize. I'm not a big fan of virtualizing SBS I nmost cases, as SBS crams enough onto one box that I/O usually becomes an issue. -Cliff "Joe#2" <Joe2(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E9650A77-5130-4DB4-A762-665116FE8C9C(a)microsoft.com... > One of my customers business is very dependent on the SBS fax utility > where > he is using 2 modems. From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 11 May 2010 02:41 Cliff have you got a reliable Fax to work on SBS2008? (And I agree on Virtual) I've heard people ask about moving the Fax part to the Parent etc. But Technically that is against licensing IMO (I'm not a lawyer) Russ -- Russell Grover - SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] MCP, MCPS, MCNPS, SBSC Small Business Server/Computer Support - www.SBITS.Biz BPOS - Microsoft Online Services - www.Microsoft-Online-Services.com "Cliff Galiher - MVP" <cgaliher(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:15BD3213-A118-4BF7-ACEB-2DE7382BD0B7(a)microsoft.com... > There are USB/Serial over IP programs out there (google) that will install > virtual drivers and then connect to the physical device over the virtual > network stack that the virtualization platform *should* offer. > > Or, don't virtualize. From: Richard K on 11 May 2010 07:32 I just got a client up and running in SBS2008 using a Mainpine 1-port board. Their drivers are 32bit and 64bit supplied and all works very well. The only downside to this board is the price at around $350.
