From: Richard K on 10 Nov 2009 07:13 SBS2008 Prem OK, I can't figure this one out. I went into Active Directory Users and Computers. I then highlighted each user account I want to have prompted to change their password. I went to properties/Account tab and check marked in the Account options both check boxes (left and right of each other) for "User must change password at next logon". The same users are telling me that when they log out and log back in they are NOT prompted to change their password. Did I miss something? Thanks! -Richard k
From: "Robbin Meng [MSFT]" on 11 Nov 2009 03:45 Hello Richard, Thanks for your post. Please right click the problematic user and select Reset Password, then reset its password and also check the "User must change password at next logon" box, click OK to confirm. Then restart one of your client computer and try again with that problematic user with the newly reset password to see if issue persists. Btw, do you have ISA Server 2006 installed? Pleas also make sure the "Password never expires" option has NOT been enabled on the user account. Please have a try. From: Richard K on 13 Nov 2009 11:27 This does work but it becomes a pain when I have to do this step for each user. I want to be able to flag the accounts that they must reset password at their next login. What am I doing in my steps that is wrong? From: "Robbin Meng [MSFT]" on 16 Nov 2009 06:08 Hello Richard, Thanks for your reply. Does this issue occur to all of your domain users when logging on using different client computers? If so, there may be any communication problem on the SBS server or on the network that may caused timeout issue for clients to locate the DC. If so, clients may use cached domain logon credential for authentication, that is to say it's a fake logon and thus the it doesn't prompt for changing password. If this is the case, please check if the Event log on the clients to see if there is any network related error when accessing DC for logon. Also, run "DCdiag/ V "and "NetDiag /v" on SBS server to see if there is any errors detected. Hope this helps. Best regards, Robbin Meng(MSFT) Microsoft Online Newsgroup Support
