From: frankvfox on 18 Jan 2010 15:26 I originally posted this thread on January 13th but have not yet gotten resolution. I have a production database on the web which I cannot open using SSMS 2008. The machine I used to develop the database was destroyed by lightning and I was forced to buy a new machine. I can get to the server but cannot expand the database node due to the following error: Server user 'abc' is not a valid user in database 'cbcf_new'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error 916). It appears to me 'cbcf_new' must be a database also resident on this same server. 'abc' is both the database name and user name of my database (assigned by the ISP). I'm running Windows Server 2008 on a Dell T605 Server 64 bits. I also have an HP laptop running 64 bit Vista Ultimate and get the exact same error message. Does anybody from MSSQL monitor this newsgroup? This must be a common problem? Why is nobody responding to me?

Why is nobody responding to me? Hi Have you looked at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240872. If you log in as sa then you should have access to the database. John
From: frankvfox on 18 Jan 2010 17:30 John, Thank you for responding. I'm starting to think this problem is resting with the ISP. I can't log in because I don't have the sa password. I was given both the username and password by the ISP and it only applies to my database. Let's close this thread as I pursue Hostway. Thanks again. When I get resolution I'll put it here again for your information.
