If the iPhone doesn't shift it's position for 10 minutes it drops GPS. This is the way the iPhone multi tasking works for CoPilot. The assumption is you've gone to another app or a phone call via the home button and will return. If you do quit via the home button and don't return to CoPilot but keep driving, CoPilot continues to give instructions even though it's running "in the background". This can get quite spookey. There are plenty of calls in the comments on the app store for a quit button within CoPilot, similar to the one in TomTom. Makes sense although it's simple to quit it in the task manager. > > > Think a key issue here is with multitasking you've got to watch what > > apps you're exiting sometimes... > > "If you see a task manager, you've failed at multitasking". The downside of that was mentioned by Jon when he said the same thing ;) > If you do quit via the home button and don't return to CoPilot but > keep > driving, CoPilot continues to give instructions even though it's > running > "in the background". This can get quite spookey. Sounds perfect to me. The problem comes when you forget and leave it running - especially if you have voice prompts turned off. > There are plenty of calls in the comments on the app store for a quit > button within CoPilot, similar to the one in TomTom. Oh? Eyebrow raised. TomTom has a quit button? > Makes sense although it's simple to quit it in the task manager. Simple but neither elegant or discoverable. Even a quit button (or rather, the need for one) isn't that discoverable, since the non-techy may not associate "sat nav in the background" with "where the hell has my battery life gone?" It's difficult to see how this can be fixed. >>> Think a key issue here is with multitasking you've got to watch what >>> apps you're exiting sometimes... >> >> "If you see a task manager, you've failed at multitasking". > > Quite so. Which makes me wonder why Apple haven't come up with a better solution for this... -z- -- email: nettid1 at fastmail dot fm

I thought they'd added a quit button to the iPhone app as part of an update to support iOS4. -z- -- email: nettid1 at fastmail dot fm |
