The html5 working group posts this to Wikipedia's html5 site: "The HTML5 specification was adopted as the starting point of the work of the new HTML working group of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 2007. This working group published the First Public Working Draft of the specification on January 22, 2008.[3] The specification is an ongoing work, and is expected to remain so for many years, although parts of HTML5 are going to be finished and implemented in browsers before the whole specification reaches final Recommendation status.[4] According to the W3C timetable, it is estimated that HTML5 will reach W3C Recommendation by late 2010. However, the First Public Working Draft estimate was missed by 8 months, and Last Call and Candidate Recommendation were expected to be reached in 2008,[5] but as of April 2010[update] HTML5 is still at Working Draft stage in the W3C.[6] HTML5 has been at Last Call in the WHATWG since October 2009.[7] Ian Hickson, editor of the HTML5 specification, expects the specification to reach the W3C Candidate Recommendation stage during 2012, and W3C Recommendation in the year 2022 or later." I'm a little confused. You koolaid drinkers talk as if this html5 is ready to push Flash's face in the dirt, first thing in the morning, not in 2022...OR LATER! HTML5 is still, as of Apr 2010, still in the WORKING DRAFT stage. It isn't even in alpha test phase! The work on it is horribly late, horribly in tatters and won't even be a CANDIDATE for W3C recommendation before 2012! By the time html5 is ready for issue, Flash will be Flash 28.1 and all the guys working on it at Adobe that look like teenagers will be old men with long white beards with grandchildren! You fans have just gotta stop pouring VODKA into that Kupertino Kickapoo Koolaid! The Reality Distortion Field is beginning to make ships coming into Californicate harbors way off course! It is very common to have such "standards" become in widesread use before they are signed, sealed and delivered as formal fixed standards. There are a number of browsers who have already implemented HTML5 as it stands now (the iphone/ipad devices, Safari and I believe Google Chrome have HTML5 support) . So this isn't just vapourware. And they will update their HTML5 implementation as the standard evolves. > You fans have just gotta stop pouring VODKA into that Kupertino Kickapoo > Koolaid! I'll have to repent and apologize to our Lord Steve Jobs because I didn't buy any Kool Aid this week, I bought a competitor's product. I have be forced to make a visit to the Apple place of worship soon.

You'll need the chart, of course: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Web_browser_usage_share.svg If you were Mercedes Benz and wanted to get car ads in front of internet browsers, and you had a choice between FLASH playing on IE, Firefox, Chrome and Opera but not Safari.....or.....HTML5/H.264 proprietary video codec playing on Chrome and Safari but NOT on IE, Firefox or Opera....... .....Which would you choose?? Quit covering your eyes and hiding behind the Reality Distortion Field....come on....out with it! The answer is quite obvious: http://www3.mercedes-benz.com/mbcom_v4/us/de.html Which is it you see? Without FLASH, it won't play at all! With Flash....it's beautiful! http://mercedes-benz.tv/de/clip-518/Mille+Miglia+2008 html5 might replace Flash in 2020, but it isn't even out of the garage, now! It's experimental and it's NOT a media player like Flash is! -- Creationism is to science what storks are to obstetrics. Larry |
