From: Kirk on 20 Jan 2010 15:31 We have Sharepoint version 3, Office 2007 and IE 7. We upload an Excel spreadsheet into a sharepoint document folder. For most of the spreadsheets we can only open in read-only when we click on the document icon or the document in the list. But, we can edit them if we use the pulldown menu on the filename and select "Edit with Excel". A few of the spreadsheets, when we click on the icon or name will ask if we want to checkout and edit or we can just read. This is the behavior that we would prefer, when clicking on the icon. Both of these spreadsheets have external connections to text files (but different text files). The Excel Services options are the same for both. We do link to these spreadsheets, from another list. The behavior through these links is the same as clicking on the spreadsheet icon in the document folder. IE sometimes will ask to edit, sometimes just comes up in read-only mode. QUESTION: What could account for this different behavior? We'd like them to all behave the same. Thanks, Kirk Cuthbert All the best to you and your family.
