From: Marty on 26 Jul 2010 18:08 Hi again, I just solved a boot/fsck problem caused probably by corrupt files, it is likely that the files got damaged during boot. Now, I shotdown all our workstations (now 11.3 ext4) when they are not needed. I never had any boot problems before and I run suse since 2001. My questions are, is it better to put a workstation into hibernate or shut it down completely? I quite like 'hibernate', is there a drawback? Thanks, cheers Marty

I use ifup and DHCP on my virtual machines, and most of my physical machines, and none of them have issues with networking when coming out of suspend. Don't know what they'd be like with hibernate since all of them are configured to suspend to disc when the power button is pressed. They only shut down when I log out and select shutdown, or issue a shutdown or init 0 on the command line. I got a little (30GB) OCZ solid state drive and moved root onto it. Now I always shutdown just cause it boots so fast that its no bother. She boots in a matter of seconds. The most time consuming part is me entering my login password at the kdm prompt. |
