Greetings!
Somebody gave me an older computer with a brandless Mobo, which I would like
to pass on to somebody who needs one. It works fine under Windows 2000
Professional, except that it doesn't turn off when it should. Even if you
push the "On" button when the monitor says: "It is now safe to turn off your
computer", it doesn't do anything. One can only unplug the computer or flip
the switch on a powerstrip (if one has one).
Is there any trick that would make the computer do the job? I looked into
the Award BIOS, but didn't see anything on shutting down there.
Many thanks in advance!
Petrus

Did you try holding the switch in for 4-5 seconds?

Had the system previously worked ok and what has changed
since then?

You might note where the switch leads are connected, unplug
it and substitute another switch or short the two pins
together with a screwdriver/etc tip to see if that works...
might be a dodgy switch.

Hello kony,

many thanks for your pronto reply. Holding the "On" button for several
seconds did the trick. I must still be too impatient at my ripe age! :)
