From: Kavitha on 10 Aug 2006 12:12 Hi, I am trying to add a particular user as an owner of a site collection and I get this error...... "The user domain\user does not have an email address". When I look up for this user in the user profiles, the user has an email address and it looks fine. I am working with a SPS 2003 installation. And I do not have this problem with other users. Any help is appreciated. thanks, Kavitha
From: Asif Rehmani on 10 Aug 2006 15:47 User Profiles have no connection to the authorization and security mechanisms in SharePoint services (or in Portal for that matter). Your user that you are trying to add needs to have an email address in the Site Collection's user table. I'm assuming the user that you are trying to set as the owner is currently a member of the site. If this is correct, go to your site and navigate to the following: Site Settings --> View Information about Site Users Note if the user has an email address here. If he/she does not, you can insert their email address. Then try adding this user as a site collection Admin. Good Luck. _______________________________ Asif Rehmani, MCSD.NET Trainer / Solution Architect SharePoint Solutions | Chicago Office Mobile: 312-953-8475 asif(a)sharepointsolutions.com SharePoint Training: http://www.sharepointsolutions.com/chicago SharePoint 2007 Videos: http://www.rehmaniconsulting.com Kavitha wrote: > Hi, I am trying to add a particular user as an owner of a site collection > and I get this error...... > "The user domain\user does not have an email address". > When I look up for this user in the user profiles, the user has an email > address and it looks fine. > > I am working with a SPS 2003 installation. From: Kavitha on 14 Aug 2006 13:43 Thanks Asif for the response. The user has the email address when i go to "View information about site users". The only place i have a problem is adding as a site owner. thanks, Kavitha "Asif Rehmani" <asifrehmani(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:1155239276.369378.6370(a)i42g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > User Profiles have no connection to the authorization and security > mechanisms in SharePoint services (or in Portal for that matter). From: Kavitha on 14 Aug 2006 15:52 Thank you Asif. Your solution worked. I had to update the user's information for every site.......I went into UserInfo table and updated the user's emailid for all the rows that contained her login and then it worked. thanks again, Kavitha "Kavitha" <kavithareddykr(a)hotmail.com> wrote in message news:eKFqek8vGHA.5084(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Thanks Asif for the response.
