I, too, have had some unexplained slowness w/SAS starts.

for consideration:

* disk clean-up
cookies
file size = 0 bytes

* defrag

* turn off Google Desktop indexing:
indexing, pause indexing

That is a problem with government computers too.
I traced the problem to Anti-Virus, which is triggered scan every file
as it is read or written.

So as the SAS System starts up, the entire thing is scanned for virus.
That takes three to five minutes, every single morning.

Thanks! That might be one of the things that changed along with getting
SP3 (our IT did a bunch of changes, that could be one).
