From: Nick Naym on 30 Mar 2010 15:36 Summary: Software Update keeps telling me I have an HP printer driver update available for installation, even after I've installed it (several times, actually). Details: Yesterday, I downloaded the SL combo update; I also checked Software Update, which indicated it had 3 updates available: One for SL, one for my HP printer driver, and a third for iMovie. I decided to install the SL combo update instead of SU's standard SL update. (Even though my SL 10.6.2 installation was only a few weeks old, I got in the habit of installing combo updates while on Leopard.) After I installed the combo update (but before rebooting), I installed the HP driver and iMovie updates, and got the "success" acknowledgement. After rebooting, everything seemed fine. However, subsequently, I decided to check Software Update, just to be sure everything was done correctly (I was wondering whether my not rebooting immediately after the combo update in any way interfered with the driver and iMovie updates). Software Update came back with the claim that I had software updates available -- specifically, the HP driver update I had just installed. I went through the installation again, and got another "success" acknowledgement. However, when I again ran Software Update, it again indicated that the HP driver update was available; I ran the installation again, and again got the "success" acknowledgment. The same thing happened when I checked a couple of hours ago, so I again did the installation. Software Update automatically notified me a short while ago that (you guessed it) I had the same HP driver update available for installation. So, for the 5th time, I did the installation. Checking in the Installed Software tab of the Software Update prefs panel, I see the 5 entries for the multiple HP Printer Driver Updates. Why is Software Update repeatedly telling me to install the same update after I've repeatedly installed it? -- iMac (27", 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) OS X (10.6.3)

Log in to an admin account. Try deleting this file: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist Run Software Update again. If the update shows up again, put it in the ignore list. Hopefully that will keep it from reappearing. -- K. Lang may your lum reek.
