Newbie query about patch
Hi, We have a Solaris 10 V490 server installed 2 years ago and did not apply any kernel patch or cluster patch as no down time granted. Now the application wanted to have it patch to the latest level. Can I down load the latest cluster patch and apply it to the system? If not, how should I go about it? I have... 18 Feb 2010 10:34
ioctl or api to get size of fdisk partition p0 (entire physical disk) on solaris x86
Hello, From what I gathered from solaris experts and google: For solaris x86, p0 fdisk partition represents the entire physical disk and p1, p2, p3 and p4 are the partitions on which different operating systems can reside. s2 slice represents any of p1, p2, p3 or p4. Joe Little's 2yr-old "little note" on backup via Amanda: anything better since then?
Back in 2008 (a long time ago, in zfs-development?) Joe Little wrote up a "Little Note" about doing zfs backups via Amanda. What's the advantage of doing it that way? (Seems complicated, having to learn the not-trivial Amanda system, plus some other piece of software whose name I forget.) Anyway, was that th... 17 Feb 2010 00:14
zfs snapshots for TAPE backup: 1: must be of entire pool? 2: if yes, then need TWICE as much disk?
When you make a snapsnot that you want to put onto a tape for off-site backup, is it the entire pool you have to snapshot? Now, a snapshot that is to go to tape will of course contain EVERYTHING descending from that point (entire pool?). And before tarring it off, doesn't it have to first be on disk, and then ... 17 Feb 2010 00:14
