Though, actually, I find it hard to believe that Agent (the newsreader you're using) doesn't properly handle "quoted-printable", so I suspect instead either you've got it configured wrong, or there was some kind of momentary glitch that prevented your copy of Agent from handling the format correctly. It was Saif, not Lew, who used Google Groups and quoted a message from "bugbear". Google Groups converts iso-8859-1 to quoted-printable. In Saif's quote from bugbear, Google also inserted lots of =A0 to preserve the layout of the quoted program text, as well as =3D for actual =-s. They have obvious problems when they convert back and forth between different representations.
