From: Peter Foldes on 21 Jun 2010 16:00 Gary No and I will not suggest one. They are all snake oil remedies and will always cause an issue. My answer as was posted was not asking you to use one but rather did you use one that caused the issue -- Peter Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. http://www.microsoft.com/protect "Gary Sams" <gary_sams(a)bigfoot.com> wrote in message news:K_udncIRyJRfMILRnZ2dnUVZ8jmdnZ2d(a)pipex.net... > Nope - can you suggest one? > > Thanks > > Gary > > > "Peter Foldes" <maci252211(a)hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:u5MYtgOELHA.5472(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >> Gary >> >> Used a Registry Cleaning Tool lately? >> >> -- >> Peter >> >> Please Reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others >> Requests for assistance by email can not and will not be acknowledged. >> http://www.microsoft.com/protect >> >> "Gary Sams" <gary_sams(a)bigfoot.com> wrote in message >> news:Kc-dnUvn5cXafIDRnZ2dnUVZ7radnZ2d(a)pipex.net... >>> I'm using XP home SP3 >>> When I start the computer it gets to the Windows XP screen and shuts down. >>> When I restart I get a range of options including start normally, start using >>> last known working configuration and starting in safe mode. >>> The first two usually cause a repeat of the problem though sometimes it starts >>> normally. >>> Starting in safe mode then restarting the computer seems to work every time. >>> >>> Going back to a system restore point before the problem occurred just produces a >>> message that the system cannot be restored. >>> >>> I thought about re-installing windows but when I found my disk it has a big >>> crack in it. >>> >>> Any suggestions? >>> >>> Thanks >>> >>> Gary >>> >> > >

So how about going through the programs that start on boot and .. preventing them from starting on boot next time: I recommend sysinternals autoruns: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx sure you can use msconfig .. but then you are doomed to start in diagnostic mode until the end of time .. well not really .. but sysinternals is just better |
