I remember years ago when you first told us you were leaving, John, moving up
to that remote cabin -- and that there'd be no more regular Usenet postings
from you.

What made you change your mind? :-)

I still live in San Francisco, but we have a cabin in Truckee where we
spend a lot of time. We also bought the lot next door, and I'm
planning to build a barn, with a serious workshop/lab, with a Mantis,
when I can afford it. We do have cable/internet! I still work
full-time and don't plan to stop. Electronics is fun.

Here's my automation report. I can turn on the heat from here so it's
warmed up when we get there. Truckee is often the coldest town in
California, occasionally the coldest in the USA.

It's refreshed about once a minute. Next project is some webcams.

Speaking of work, maybe I should get on over there.

Interesting things happen. One really can get bored in paradise! I
still love it here but I had to do something to challenge the mind.
Enter two events. I got Hughsnet and an old friend contacted me
wanting to start a company to manufacture induction heaters. That we
did.

Soooo, here I am. Those neat orderly photos of the inside of my cabin
on my website are ancient history now. Inventory stacked everywhere.
Lunchroom tables in the den to use for assembly. Bedrooms taken over
for the labs. The kittys don't know what to think about all this :-)
Boy, you ought to hear the UPS guy grouse about his almost daily drive
up the mountain...

I'm still not up to my old volume of writing. Just don't have the
time. Been lurking here for about a year now. Once the crazies are
filtered out, this is a pretty good group.
