From: Erik de Rooij on 2 Jul 2005 11:59 Hi, I encountered the same problem when accessing the new Microsoft Update (v6). In my case it seems that the MS XML parser got corrupted. After reinstalling the MSXML 3.0 SP5 I was able to properly access the site. "Ed Allen" wrote: > Calen I have been asking this question for a week with no answer. From: Ed Allen on 2 Jul 2005 12:52 I ran that update and no results. From: -=calen=- on 2 Jul 2005 20:05 Hi All: Ed, Erik speaks the truth. More specifically, the "Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4" will break certain xml and asp functionality. My Veritas 9.1 web admin console and my Symantec Rapid Release updates both were also broken after installing the Rollup from the new Microsoft Update site. Here's what I did to fix ALL of my problems in one fell swoop: Go to the Microsoft Downloads Centre and do a search for "Update Rollup for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4". Download and install this on your affected machines (works for both Win2K servers and workstations). You should then be able to go back to the new Microsoft Update site without any errors. It is then safe to continue installing any further updates from the Microsoft Update site. Any other app breaks may also get fixed by this (as did mine). Good luck! I too had a similar problem on our SBS 2000 server After doing the rollup package I could not access the Windows update site either - more interesting was the fact that when I went to the WU Newsgroup - there was a scripting error and the screen also indicated that my Active X needed to be turned on (I checked this and it was actually turned on !) Thank goodness I discovered your post because after I installed the MSXML 3.0 SP5 everything is back to normal. One questions - do I need to install MSXML 4.0 ??? any diference ?? And what about the mentioned ASP 'breakages' any truth to that too ?? (any fix here?) Microsoft - why did you release the rollup package when these issues are caused ???
