I uploaded a video, it's much easier to explain that way.

Sorry for the crappy quality, first time Camtasia user.

Is there any correspondence between the menu pages within a directory
and the HOME directory? For example, when you are on the second menu
page (i.e. you would normally have to press NXT once to get to the
second menu page) within a subdirectory, does using UPDIR preserve the
menu page (also second page of the HOME directory)? Is this what you
are trying to demonstrate in the video?

Say I am in page 2 of the VAR menu, in a given directory. If I do Letf-
Shift VAR (i.e. UPDIR), I would expect the page 1 VAR menu of the
upper directory to be shown, but (if the upper directory has more than
1 page for the VAR menu) page 2 is shown instead of page 1. I would
expect page 1 as this has been the usual behavior of the calc (it is,
when I disable USER mode).
Same strange issue when going into a subdir. If I'm in page 2 of the
VAR menu in a given directory, and go into a subdir with a VAR menu
with more than 1 page, I end up seeing page 2 of the VAR menu in the
subdir instead of page 1.

It's odd, because if I type UPDIR and press ENTER (instead of Left-
Shift VAR), it works as one would expect.

It is strange also that having << UPDIR >> stored in a variable inside
a given directory, when pressing the softkey corresponding to that
variable, it would also show that odd behavior.

I have removed all key assignments to no avail.

¿Any ideas?

I am unable to duplicate this behavior. What ROM version are you
using? (I'm using ROM 2.15; type VERSION to see your ROM version.) I
created two pages of directories, each containing two pages of
variables to test this but could not duplicate the behavior.

Are you using any stack or shell replacements? What libraries are
installed (perhaps some of these might be causing conflicts?). I
checked to see if the soft keys were handled differently in user mode,
but it appears that [left-shift][VAR] just makes a call to the UPDIR
command.

ROM 2.09

I deleted some variables from HOME and works normally now.

I'm using JHM's "Save unlimited command lines and menus" seen here:

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.hp48/browse_thread/thread/c084b23bdf1e3952/389914739c4c2876?lnk=gst&q=unlimited+command+line+entries#389914739c4c2876

Deleted several variables related to this.

Although I don't want to lose it...I love that clever invention.

I think it is something related to the "alphaENTER" and "betaENTER"
programs.
