I have Office Xp. When using Excel is there a way to get a sum of only
selected cells not in a sequence, and how can I selected those rows or
cells?

Sum will appear in the Status bar if you enable it. And select random
cells by holding down CTRL key and clicking on them

You need to use SUMIF() formula. For example your numbers are in cells:
C1:C10. So in Cells B1:b10 enter 1 to indicate the selected cells you
want for addition purposes. Then your formula in E11 might look
something like this:

=SUMIF(B1:B10,"=1",C1:C10)

The above formula says that if cells in B1:B10 are equal to 1, then add
all corresponding cells in C1:C10
