From: jad on 3 May 2010 08:45 Hi all I have a user that is setup to synch his laptop with our SBS server. He has been happily doing this for a few years. Last week he said that he has been having problems synching for the last 3 months!!!! So now I have a situation where I need to re inialise the cache - but this will remove the ost files on the laptop and effectively he will lose all the work that he has done in the last three months. I have a feeling that the only thing that can save these files is to search for all files modified in the past three months (whilst he is offline) and the open each one and save a new copy to the local drive. Then we can put all of new docs in a seperate folder on the server and then re initialise the cache and re synch. Any comments or any other ideas?? thanks
From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 3 May 2010 11:21 Hi: The nomenclature OST is normally reserved for the cached copy of the users exchange mailbox that is kept on the local computer for off line use, such as travel or server unavailable for whatever reason. Off line files is normally used to mean a copy of the users "my documents" folder that is stored locally so that the user can read and modify word and excel docs while away. But, just to be safe, to the date search and determine what user documents exist on the notebook then simply copy them out to a new folder so you know where they are. Look for matching, similiar documents on the SBS. Backup both sets to a known safe location with different folder names. After that, you can't hurt anything. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Hi all > > I have a user that is setup to synch his laptop with our SBS server. > He has > been happily doing this for a few years.
