This is true, also experimentation is usually discouraged by the
lack of installation media to put Windows back on the system if anything
goes wrong.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Most machines these days come with
restore partitions. You can easily make backups of these with programs
like Macrium, Acronis, or Ghost.

I've seen machines without - and even on machines with one you need
to know that these programs exist and can turn your restore partition into
a recovery disc. I contend that none of this is obvious to the average user.
