Dodgy PCI-E slot on the motherboard. I tried installing an nVidia card in the same slot and the system froze after nVidia drivers were installed. Moving it to the second slot - no problems as yet.
From: goldy on 12 Apr 2010 08:07 For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots. Make sure your BIOS settings are correct for what you are trying to do. It could be that the slot you suspect of being dodgy might not have the proper settings for your card.
