From: Good Gawd! on 25 Jun 2010 14:50 < I have often accused Larry King of being a half-journalist, asking those that he's interviewing good questions but too often failing to deliver on the obvious follow-up. < It happened again the other night when Dr, Jack Kevorkian was his guest on Larry King Live. < The subject, naturally, was the current roadblock against anyone making it possible for the terminally ill to take their own life -- a crime" for which Kevorkian spent eight years in prison. < When the good doc was pressed about who's rEsponsible for the archaic law, he placed quite a bit of the blame on religion. < Yet, when Kevorkian informed King of that, in no uncertain terms, -- empatically stating, "I call it mythology, not religion" -- he was NOT even asked "WHY?" < ================================ < KEY PORTION OF THE INTERVIEW KING: Are people helping people die? < KEVORKIAN: It's done in hospitals, even, quietly. Even hospices do it quietly. You know, they turn up the dose a little. You know, it's not recorded, or even if they do, it's an acceptable dose. And the patient dies. In fact, in one hospital, they called it "the death room" whenever they were transferred to that room. < KEVORKIAN: Well, it's not pressure. A doctor's always got pressure. I mean, a doctor who's treating somebody with a brain tumor or a heart attack is under pressure, too, and especially when it's an incurable disease. He's really under pressure then, see? A doctor always plays God, always is under pressure. < Now, isn't it strange that the inconsistent society we have says it's OK to have a doctor help someone come into the world -- which wasn't true at one time. We left it to midwives, see? And that's where the witch hunts started because doctors wanted to get rid of those midwives. And you can help them come into the world, but you can't help them leave the world. It's inconsistent. < KING: It's largely religion, isn't it? < KEVORKIAN: Yes! Yes! < KING: That's your enemy? < KEVORKIAN: I call it mythology, not religion. < KING: But that's your enemy, right? < KEVORKIAN: One of my enemies. The other enemy is the medical profession. < KING: Because? Why would they care? I mean . . . < KEVORKIAN: They called it a criminal act because they go with what the law says, not medical -- we don't have any medical ethics. e never did have. Those are all religious ethics because doctors ere connected with hospices during the Middle Ages, which were always religious institutions. < KING: What about the Hippocratic oath? < KEVORKIAN: Hippocrates didn't write it. We don't know who wrote it. Pythagoras -- but the research has shown the Pythagoreans, which were the only sect in ancient Greece who were against euthanasia, against abortion, all that -- they were the only sect against it. Of all he philosophical schools, they were against it. And it happened to coincide with Catholic doctrine, which was then coming into power. < ======================= < THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1006/18/lkl.01.html < ======================= < PROOF OF LIFE AFTER DEATH http://www.edconrad.com/pics/Miracle.jpg http://edconrad.com/lifeafterdeath < ======================= < NATIONAL NEWS SITES ABCNEWS.com Arizona Republic, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Baltimore Sun Boston Globe CBS News CNN Chicago Sun-Times Chicago Tribune Christian Science Monitor Cincinnati Enquirer Cincinnati Post Cleveland Plain Dealer Dallas Morning News Denver Post Detroit Free Press Detroit News Florida Times-Union Fox News Ft. He called me up twice to be on his show. Once was during the baseball strike, I forget when the other time was. He wanted Ron Luciano, who had been an umpire, but I was assigned his telephone number after he suicided. I told him he was dead the first time, but I guess he didn't make a note of it. So, if you knew Ron's number, you can give me a call! -- pete |
