The project plan uses fixed work tasks with the resource unit entered as the
second factor. With that in mind, I wouldn't want to manually enter a
duration to make the ? go away. [Project 2007]

Hello Stacey,

No. Project will calculate the duration based upon the amount of work
and the assignment unit. The ? will still appear even after the
calculation of duration. To remove the ? from all tasks go to Tools >
Options, Schedule tab and clear the checks from:
"Show that tasks have estimate durations" and "New tasks have estimated
durations."

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
