I have two Windows XP SP3 computer connected through a Rooter. I am the only
user on both and I have the same Username and password on both computers. Do
I need User Profile Hive cleanup on my computers? It is repeatedly coming up
in the Event Viewer which make me think it is slowing down my computer.

This utility is designed to speed up the Windows shutdown process. It is not
a part of the original installation but was added by someone to your machine
at a later stage. If your PC shuts down quickly then you can disable or
uninstall it.

If by "it" you mean the PHC, then something is wrong. Remove it to see what
happens. It shouldn't affect anything but shut down times, so it may not be
your culprit.
What are you looking at in Event Viewer that makes you think "it" is
slowing things down? What specifically is the Event Viewer contents? Include
ALL data there. You've given nothing to work with here.

If you mean the event viewer is just showing you the UPHCS turning on when
you start up and off when you close, it probably isn't making much
difference to the time. Normally people load this service because some
profiles refuse to shut down until they have finished some task they are
actually unable to complete. The properties sheet for the event may tell
you which profile if any, is holding up shutdown and has had to be closed.
I find this a very useful service, and so far, have had to use it on all the
pcs I've had, and it quite often helps by shutting down profiles that have
'got stuck'.

A further thought: in case there *is* a problem with your profile, and you
are using Outlook, back up your outlook.pst file and your ntuser.dat file
(your profile). If Outlook has trouble loading your profile it makes you a
new one and you lose all your mail.
