Then ignore the chip and focus on the antenna/antenna type.
Max signal strength is capped, your environment has not been
mentioned but plenty of people use wifi successfully without
knowing what chip is in their adapter.

.... providing they have an antenna that has acceptable SNR,
can pick up the desired signal and reject background
*noise*.
