From: Martin (BT) on 25 Jan 2010 13:14 Had a big blowup - reinstalled Windows XP This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem. 2 programmes are affected CAVO28 and 2.8 REINDEX. CAVO27 still works. I copied the directories to my home PC - they work on there. Virus on Friday, removal trashed Windows, reinstalled SP3 today after it locked up on SP2 (P4) Any ideas anyone, this is the last application I need to get to work apart from reinstalling firefox and a different AV solution. Anyone tried Avast on a Pentium? Help please Thanks Martin
From: Geoff Schaller on 25 Jan 2010 19:07 ? So reinstall. If you want a good AV then try NOD32. From: Johan Nel on 26 Jan 2010 00:08 Martin, > Anyone tried Avast on a Pentium? I am using Avast since 2002 on PII right up to my current Core 2 Duo Machine with Vista on. Never had any problems with a virus slipping through. What I like about it, there are sometimes even 3-4 virus database updates per day. And the packets are very small, very seldom takes more than 20 seconds after connecting to the internet to have it updated. So in a sense I feel relatively secure/happy that these guys for a free product are keeping viruses out my computer or lets rather say actively trying to keep up with all threats. From: Mathias on 26 Jan 2010 01:43 Hi Martin, I'm also using avast at home since a long. Currently I using it on XP, Vista and W7 without problems. I installed it on W7 last weekend (since I just got myself a netbook) and it seems like they have upgraded the UI. I noticed changed colors and a female voice telling me "The virus database has been updated". Not sure if this is a feature I like, but I suddenly had a flashback from 2001 - a space odyssey: "Open the pod bay door HAL!" (http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkyUMmNl4hk). Do you think there might be something in the fact that you were updated by a female??? <g> "Mathias" <mathias.hakansson(a)consultec.se> wrote in message news:ef4f97b6-be1d-478b-b720-e38a242a69de(a)21g2000yqj.googlegroups.com: > Hi Martin, > > I'm also using avast at home since a long.
