Charles Arthur has written about it here: <http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2010/jul/13/apple-time-capsul e-failure-analysis> The dodgy ones have a serial number in a particular range (XX807XXXXXX - XX814XXXXXX) - mine's XX910 which is encouraging since it's transferring to a new i7 MBP with 4 hours 20 to go. Further down the article a wider range is mentioned: "xx807xxxxxxx through xx852xxxxxxx - very much broader than those in the statement yesterday." I wonder if this transfer would have been a lot quicker over ethernet... Stuart -- cut that out to reply

Always plug in machines for that first backup as the gigabit will shift data a whole load faster then N wifi. -- Jon B Above email address IS valid. <http://www.bramley-computers.co.uk/> Apple Laptop Repairs.

Contacted Apple support and explained I had read about the problem on various sites and I was sent a replacement free of charge. Allen.

It all went smoothly if somewhat slowly - I couldn't find an ethernet cable and couldn't be bothered to unplug the Mac Pro's one under the desk. I'm using the new 15" i7 anti-glare now with all my old stuff in place. Stuart -- cut that out to reply
