time machine saves multiple copies of files that change so you can go
back in time to an older version or a file you deleted. superduper is a
clone of what is on your drive whenever you run it. if you delete a
file on the source drive, it's deleted on the clone too. if a file is
corrupted somehow, the corrupted version is copied to the clone. with
time machine, you could go back in time to when the file was not
corrupt.

the drawback to time machine is it needs more disk space. if you have a
500 gig drive, you only need 500 gig to clone it, but for time machine
you will need more space for the various snapshots. you can decide to
skip things that can easily be restored, such as the system itself and
applications to reduce space, but then you won't have a complete
backup. the larger the hard drive the farther back in time you can go.

another difference is that superduper is bootable. if your main drive
crashes, you simply boot from the clone and keep working until you get
a replacement drive. with time machine, you can't do anything until you
get a replacement drive and then reinstall and restore from the backup.

is there anything important on it?

..this isn't an either/or proposition
..i use both time machine AND superduper

..i use TM to back up my 500 GB MBP HD
to a 1 TB external HD
..my backups go back to july 26, 2009
and there is still 300 GBs free

..superduper clones my boot drive every
night
..if my MBP dies, i can boot my mac mini
from the superduper clone and keep
on working

just to be clear, time machine will not do anything with boot camp. you
need a native windows backup utility, or clone it with winclone.
