I've got a few bottles of toner for an HP LJ 1100 but no longer own the
printer. Can I use this toner in an HP LJ 1020?

Probably, but I would go to several toner vendors on line and see if
they suggest the same product number for both, or not. Toner is not
toner, they vary considerably in chemistry, composition, mechanics and
temperature range, so just make sure the same toner is suggested for
both printers 3rd party and likely it will be relatively safe.
