Is this expensive toy known for being picky on 3.5mm audio cables?

What exactly do you mean by "picky" ?

1) Is it not making connections ?

2) Are you hearing 50Hz or 60Hz hum ?

3) Is the audio level wrong ?

There is a manual here.

Page 7 shows there are a number of jacks on the back. What
jack are you plugging into ? We need details...

The Radio was connected to the m9088hk PC via a typical 3.5mm audio
cable via its AUX port.

Noise was heard. I didn't know what caused it. Yesterday, I replaced it
with a new one (as cheap as the old one) and the noise was gone.

No.

So, you're amplifying the audio output of the m9088hk PC ?

Aux-In apparently uses a stereo jack, but adds the signals
together to drive the monophonic speaker on the radio.

If you're hearing hum at 50Hz or 60Hz (whatever frequency is
used for AC in your location), then there are isolator devices
to stop that. This particular one is inconvenient, as it has
RCA plugs on it, and you'd need adapters to convert this
device to 1/8" audio.

Ground Loop Isolator $16.99

For converting RCA to 1/8" audio, I use one of these.

If you're hearing a sound like "static", then there could be
a bad contact on the jack, there could be a bad coupling capacitor
inside the radio, as two examples of reasons for static. I've even
had audio equipment with a bad solder joint - it is loads of
fun, trying to find the bad joint and fix it.
