It's actually still on the disk in an invisible folder named .Trashes (until
you empty the trash).

I use a utility called 'Blue Harvest' which automatically removes all
invisible files from any non-Mac formatted disks. Then anything erased goes
immediately. Of course you can't then recover it if you make a mistake
