From: Purtech on 28 Aug 2007 16:35 I added a computer via the wizard then found out the name would not work. I tried to delete it and I get: (This is in the Server Management console: "Set up Computer Wizard was unable to remove this computer from the network. Open Active Directory Users and Computers, and remove the computer manually" It doesn't exist in AD! So I am stuck with a computer in the list with a red x. How do I remove it? I am assuming the wizard did not finish. Thanks,
From: SBS Rocker on 28 Aug 2007 16:48 Can you log onto the domain from that computer? Remove the computer from the domain by joining a workgroup. Then use the SBS Server Management to "Remove the computer from the network". Any and all network administration orconfigurations should be done using the SBS Management Console and not ADUC. If it shows up in server management console, and you've refreshed the display, then it does exist in AD, but it may not be in the SBS OU structure. Use AD "Action" / "Find" to locate the computer object. > > So I am stuck with a computer in the list with a red x. > > How do I remove it? I am assuming the wizard did not finish. > > Thanks, -- /kj
From: Terence Liu [MSFT] on 29 Aug 2007 03:02 Hello Customer, Thanks for posting here, and thanks for SBS Rocker and Kevin's inputs. From your description, I understand the issue is that: you tried to remove a computer object from the SBS management console, however you received error message" The setup computer wizard was unable to remove this computer from the network. Open Active Directory Users and Computers and remove the computer manually". And the computer cannot be found in ADUC. If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know. For current situation, let us follow the steps below to double confirm if the computer object still exists in ADUC: 1. Click Start -> Run, type DSA.MSC and click OK. 2. Right click the domain.local node and select FIND. 3. In FIND dialog box, select Computers in Find drop down list. 4. Click FIND NOW button. 5. If there is no such computer displays, which indicates that the computer has been removed successfully. You can close the server management console and open it again. The computer object will not display in client computers -> server management console. If the computer object still shows here, please reboot the SBS to see if it is resolved. In SBS system, when we open Server Management Console\Client computers, system will search the AD for any client computers object. If the computer object is deleted in ADUC, the object should not display in the server management console. 6. If there is the computer displays, you can remove it here. If you still cannot delete here, please let me know the exact error message. And also help me collect a screenshot of the error message for analyze. If we cannot resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please help me collect the following information for analyze: 1. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures to me at v-terliu(a)microsoft.com 2. Please collect the MPS report for analyze: a. Visit http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9 15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE. to download the file. b. Run the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE on the server box. c. Wait for 10~15 minutes. d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to %SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\cab\ e. Send the .cab file directly to me at v-terliu(a)microsoft.com Hope above information helps. Please let me know if you have further question on the issue. I am happy to be of assistance to you and look forward to your reply. Have a nice day!
