From: undisclosed on 2 May 2010 13:45 Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general (More info?) In windows XP, we can rename a group of files in the same time now. Just select multiple files and select "Rename" from right click menu, you can see all the file you selected can be rename in the same time. But, if you single click another file first, and then drag a rectagle with mouse to select some files else, and hit "F2", then you will find that you are going to change the name of the file that do not want. Hitting "F2" will beging the name changing to the file which has the focus. Click a file and multi select some other files by draging mouse, you will find that the focus is still on the file that you click at the first. Then interest thing happens. If you want to rename some files, and you multi select some files in any way, and then you find that a file should not be *'Rename Files' (http://download.cnet.com/Rename-Maestro/3000-2248_4-10971704.html)*, so you click it while holding the "Ctrl" key down to remove it from your selection, then you hit "F2" in order to change the names, you will find the file that you have removed from your selection is still going to be renamed. Funny. Is that a bug? If it is a bug, I think it is difficult to fix. -- mp3renamer

I much prefer RenameMaster, a free Windows utility with almost too many options that shows you the new names and even lets you redo the changes you've made, assuming you do so right away. Bill

I like Bulk Rename Utility (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk) for this kind of task.
